THCa / THCA / THC-A / THC-a – all these terms refer to tetrahydrocannabinolic acid, the crystalline form of the pure cannabinoid. THCa is the so-called inactive form of THC, which occurs naturally in cannabis plants. In undried cannabis flowers, the ratio of THCa to THC is many times higher. Conversion to the so-called active cannabinoid THC occurs primarily through heating. Analyses of the total THC content in dried cannabis almost always state both THC and THCa values. In established practice in most EU countries, the THC content in dried cannabis is determined by adding the THC value to 0.877 times the THCa value.
